DSL or Cable Technology?
Depends on where you live and work.

Two differing technologies - digital subscriber lines (DSL) and cable modems - are poised to give your Internet connection a major speed boost. Both at their slowest are more than twice as fast as a 56kbs modem.

Both technologies use existing communication lines - DSL uses the 750 million phone lines in the United States while cable modems piggyback on your local cable TV lines. The catch is that to use DSL you need to be located within 3-4 miles of a telephone switching office. And while most homes are wired for cable, many businesses are not.

The bottom line is that cable's lower cost and simplicity will be more attractive to the home user, while businesses will like DSL's higher speed, and security.   Watch for DSL prices to come down which may also open up the desirability in the home market.
