Investing in Microsoft Office 2003

Is it worth it to invest in the latest version of Microsoft Office? Of course you’ll find a few new features here and there, but your interest is in solving problems and alleviating headaches. Do you have so much email in your Inbox you don’t know where to begin? Have employees emailed out confidential documents, or made unauthorized changes, making you wish you could restrict permissions? Would it waste less time if you could take your Office files with you on your handheld or smart phone?

The changes to Outlook 2003 make it worth the upgrade all by themselves. Like many 21st century professionals, you may be inundated with emails daily, both legitimate and spam. Outlook 2003 allows you to group, arrange, and sort emails with more powerful tools than ever before, including Arrange by Conversation. Various levels of junk filters are available, including the ability to block selected senders and create “safe sender” and “safe recipient” lists.

Search Folders provide a quick look at Unread Mail, Mail Flagged for Follow-up, or any criteria you decide to help bring important mail out of the email ocean and to the surface for your immediate attention.

Multiple Calendars can be viewed simultaneously in Outlook 2003, and it is easier than ever to open a Shared Calendar to check or compare schedules.*

Outlook’s new Business Contact Manager allows you to manage contacts, accounts, sales opportunities, and more right in Outlook, providing custom reports and actionable insights into your data.

*Microsoft Exchange is necessary for Shared Calendar functionality.

General Office Changes

  • Word, PowerPoint, and Excel all feature a new Research Task Pane, putting a wealth of research information at your fingertips. Imagine searching for a needed word or phrase from dictionaries, research sites, encyclopedias, websites and more without ever leaving Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Need a word translated? It can do that too.

  • PowerPoint now allows you to scribble notes on your tablet PC and have them appear on the presentation in progress, and you can even switch to a different program without stopping the presentation.

  • Word 2003 adds much needed protection features. Now you can set permissions with your documents, deciding if changes are permitted and who has the right to make them. It is even possible to restrict emailing permissions, so that neither a disgruntled employee nor a rampant virus can suddenly decide to broadcast your budgets and personnel records.

  • Access 2003 finally has the ability to backup your databases quickly and easily, a long overdue improvement.
And then there is InfoPath, an entirely new Office 2003 technology.

  • InfoPath allows you to make forms and gather information flexibly and efficiently. Share, reuse, and repurpose information throughout your team or organization. InfoPath 2003 helps improve collaboration and decision-making to positively impact your business.

  • Windows Mobile refers to Microsoft software designed to link your Office files to your handheld or smartphone, so that you can have your email, and even pocket versions of Outlook, Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer with when you leave the office.
